I currently have an F5 and a D700. I am thinking of getting a mint F4 but have a couple of concerns. First, the camera is in Japan, I am in the US. Being a gray market model, can it be serviced in here if and when the time comes? Do I take it to an authorized Nikon shop or can any independent camera shop can service it? Another question is about the lenses and flash I can use with the F4. Will my SB 800 work with the F4? Will my lenses work with the F4( 50/1.4D AF Nikkor, 85/1.8D AF Nikkor, AF-S Nikkor 16-35/1.4G ED, AF-S Nikkor 80-200/2.8D ED)? Thanks..
Only issue would be if you were to send it to Nikon for repairs. They won't work on it. That said, repairs on an F4 are getting to the point where it's cheaper to get a different body than to have yours overhauled. Even for the nice ones. One thing, if you haven't committed to buying the camera in Japan, look at the EX and EX+ grade F4's at KEH. $300+ship, you get a 6 month warranty, and, the shipping won't break the bank.

I doubt the grey market thing will be an issue. My interpretation is that the main concern is the importation of newish cameras still under warranty and Nikon USA is trying to protect itself. And, as already mentioned you will probably find it cheaper to buy another one than do a repair if something does go wrong. I'm looking for an F5 and the source country won't be an issue for me.
I received my new, old F4 yesterday and can not believe it's excellent condition being a 16 year old body. It can absolutely pass for a new camera. And I am a difficult person to please. I got it from ebay for 399. I also have an F5, also in excellent condition, that I got from craigslist for 400.
