I don't quite understand what you meant by the previous response but the F6 is very similar to a D2X/D2H and so the SB-400 should work fine. I don't have an SB-400 but I do have an SB-800 and SB-900 and it works just as expected. No differences that I notice between the F6 and my D3 for that matter.

I've been using the SB400 lately and I am so please with the results. This is a very simple speedlight & so extremely easy to use, affordable and very tiny, compact & handy & uses 2 AA size batteries. As the manual suggests, compatible with the F6 film camera.
