I read that article some time ago and don't remember where it is now. I got an email notification from B&H about a week ago regarding the availability of the remote. Check them out, they may still have it in stock.
i am looking to make one my self...not buying the one thats available...cause...i can't afford it now...though...i need it... i was talking about the datasheet/circuit diagram of it...some one described it here...and i am looking for it...
Also remember you can use an MR-3 in the remote port and use a standard cable release and have a verticle shutter release when you are in the "S" focus mode!! This and using the 99 cent batteries you can get on surefires website are my favorite tips for N/F70 users!! Bill
I chased down an MR-3 a while back and found 2 disconcerting things. First the purely mechanical, make and break, of the MR-3 that was designed originally for bodies without the 'light/half push' for staging the electronics will not give the 'start' AF signal to the body. Fine if you're using MF glass but not if you plan on using AF. Second there is apparently 2 versions of this part and one doesn't work at all. I tried buying one used and have a working version only due to B&H's excellent customer service (thank you Henry) which replaced it, tho only after the usual return, reshipping cycle. I suppose I'm lucky tho...if my N70 had a complete line of accessories I'd be even poorer for having bought all the trinkets.
You are correct, Jeff. It is, the mr3, a mechanical make and break switch. When I use mine with an af lens I make sure that the focus mode is set to Single. That way the camera won't release the shutter until it is in focus. Not perfect, but I like using this setup over the long electronic shutter release and it works fairly well as a verticle shutter release when you get used to it. Take care, Bill
Did we ever find a way of getting one of these MR-3's to work in a 2 stage mode for AF then release? I need to nod one to work on a D2H. Or is there one ready made to work in 10 pin socket?
Also, just a thought, but since the MR-3 is make and break, what if we sepperate the AF start pin out of the circut and fix a AF meter start outside the cable to use sort of like an AF/AE lock button then fire w/ cable as usual?
