N75 lens suggestions
I just bought a N75. I shoot mostly b/w so I can develop and print myself. It came with a 28-80mm lens. I would like to buy a 50mm fixed lens. I see a Nikon 50mm f/1.8D AF Nikkor - Gray Market Lens for $105 at Adorama. The American Warranty version is available for $125. I have some questions. Is there a difference in quality between the two? Why do I see the same lens on eBay used for more money than the new one? Is there a reliable place to get a good deal on used lenses online? I'm afraid of getting ripped off on eBay because I am pretty new to all of this. I will limit my questions to these for now and post a few more another day.
Thanks for your help.

Ed, first, welcome to Nikonians!
My, second lens purchase was a fast fifty: AF 50mm f/1.8 Nikkor. Mine predates the update with the D-chip. Great lens!
As far as gray (parallel import) vs. official import, it comes down to warranty. Nikon USA will not perform any warranty work on a gray market lens. If you need to have any work done on it, you will need to go to a third party repair facility (authorized repair facilities will work on gray market lenses). Having said that, there isn't a lot to go wrong with a prime (single focal length) lens, especially a fifty.
Personally, I would get the official version with the 1 year warranty + 4 year extended warranty for not much more.
Personally, I purchase from Berger Bros. or B&H Photo Video. Adorama and KEH is also reputable. There are many others.
Regardless of where you buy or what you buy, ALWAYS check the online retailer at www.resellerratings.com. NEVER buy on price alone.

They are identical. The lenses are made in the same factory by the same people with the same parts.
The Nikon USA version is imported by Nikon USA the official importer.
The Gray market lens is imported by someone other than Nikon USA.
Lenses imported by Nikon USA include a 1 year international warranty + a 4 year extended warranty. Gray market lenses ussually include a 1 year warranty provided by the retailer.
Nikon USA Service will not service a gray market lens even for a fee.
As Anthony wrote above, Nikon Authorized Service Stations will service gray market lenses.

There is no logic to the prices found on flea-bay.

Also both Adorama and B & H sell used equipment as well.
All stand behind the used gear that they sell and provide warranties.
Good Luck and Enjoy your Nikons!
