Here's mine from this morning...it was and still is "FE2 Day" but I only brought one along, the chrome body was left at home in the Nikon bag...
I picked this camera up about a year ago for $90 and just recently added a mint 50mm Series E 1.8 lens. The thumb cuff is from Op-Tech and allows for a very small, pocketable camera without the bulkiness of wrist straps and camera straps.
I am in the process of "pimping" this beauty along with the chrome body...first up is the K3 focusing screen and then a black leather half case. More later.
This is my pair with the 50mm lenses that I bought with them. They have to share the MD-12.
I bought the FM2n in 1993 along with the 50mm f1.8 AF, 70-210 f4.5-5.6D AF lenses and the MD-12 motor drive. This was what I spent my high school graduation money on and retired my Nikon F and Nikkormat FTN.
The FM was bought at an amateur radio convention in Dayton, OH from the Flea market area. It came with the 50mm f2 AI lens, along with a Vivitar 28mm f2.5 and Vivitar Flash. I picked the whole kit up for $50.
I know that I should probably get anothre MD-12, as they are cheap enough these days, but I don't ever see shooting them togther.
KEH has them in EX condition for about $40. Can't go wrong there. I spend over $200 in 1993 for my new one.
It has that "old-school" motor drive sound and balanced nicely with the camera. It also has a nicer shutter button and the hand grip. The 8 AA-cells last forever and it gives a bit more than 3 fps in "C" mode.
Avoid the MD-11 as if you leave it on, it will drain the camera batteries. MD-12 automatically shuts down the meter after about 15 seconds IIRC.
I haven't been shooting it as much as I normally do, lately, but, then again, I've been making sure that a certain FT2 was working properly after being repaired, testing out an F5 that joined the arsenal recently, and will be putting the FTn through its paces once the roll in the F2AS is finished off.
Oh, today I came across an excellent MD12 at Wings Camera in Atlanta for $20!!!
Got home, new batteries, tried it out and it is perfect! Why oh why did I wait so long to get one of these? All I need is a plug cover for MD12 and, then, another one for the chrome body...and then...oh, I hate NAS but not enough to say "no"..
Should check with KEH, since they're local to ya. I think, at the moment, they've a lot of nine motor drives, mainly MD-11's and MD-12's, with some MD-4's and MD-15's mixed in. It's likely that, with a little cleanup on one of those MD-12's, you'd have one that works perfectly. That, and a nice MD-4 for your next F3.
