Discovered why my F FTn finder didn't play nice with pointy prong Nikkors... Coupling mechanism was all gummed up. Removed the three screws that hold the nameplate on, and went to town with a cotton swab and some denatured alcohol. Cleaned it up real good, and tried a 50/1.4 Nikkor-S that still had its original prong on it. Very snappy in response. Literally a difference between night and day.
