no, actually it is working better. i sent it off for adjustment as it was not quite right. it took great pictures before it was repaired, but even better after. this got me thinking there was some sort of a software upgrade as it now has the shutter from an FM3a!
The FM3a had a very special hybrid shutter. It was a hybrid mechanical and electronically controlled shutter. In many ways the FM3a's shutter was more advanced than some of the shutters used in DSLR's god I wish they would make a FM3d or a digital version like Olympus just introduced a digital OM(OMd).
Maybe its the fact you have the most advance shutter made for Nikon's MF cameras. I love my FM3a it is the one camera along with my FE2 I will not part with ever.
I suspect that autoexer's FA probably has the curtains from an N8008, either installed in the original shutter, or maybe a complete N8008 shutter assembly. It may be possible to put an FM3a shutter into an FA or FE2, but I suspect the body might not have enough room for the mechanical dial assembly, etc...
In any case, having a new shutter likely improved the performance of the camera. The closest thing I see to a firmware upgrade for an FA would be an F4 body. That loses Program and Shutter Priority with MF lenses, tho.

thinking about it, it is more likely the shutter assembly is from an FM2n, the new all aluminum version. When APS did the repair, the did say they replaced the main circuit board, the reason for my question. The new shutter was a surprise!
