Had a question about the black covers on the F3. They are brass, painted? With what? - enamel, powdercoating, acrylic, carbon black?
Situation is, I have a pretty well-worn F3P. Trouble is, it doesn't show it from far away. Up close, well, some dolt - *ahem* - well-intentioned previous owner covered up a lot of the brassing and wear marks - and poorly at that. I'm hoping for a solvent or something I can try to remove just the re-paint, without touching the factory enamel, if possible. Alcohol? Acetone?
It will brass fairly quickly if you just give it time with a LOT of usage like it was meant to be in the first place. The touch-ups are not baked on and will not last but a short while. I suppose you could add some extra rubbing with your hand whilst shooting, but shooting you must do!
>Proceed at your own risk with acetone. Yep - found that post >It will brass fairly quickly if you just give it time with a >LOT of usage like it was meant to be in the first place. I owe this guy some new foam and light seals, but it's my go-to shooter as-is, and my favorite for quick grabs.
For a second there, I thought you had my old F3P, but, no, I didn't repaint it. In any case, just use it, it'll come off. Someone repainted an old black FM2n of mine when they overhauled it. A couple months later, it started wearing off and got back to how it was beforehand.
With respect to images, just copy the farm(number).staticflickr.com URL and post it. If need be, put the link to the image page below, to take care of the Flickr community rules.
Thanks. They'll be in the same set as that photo. It was just too worn looking, so I removed the black paint from the finder. My last F3P did have a normal black DE-5 on it, as did this camera when I sold it in '06.
Since my edit didn't work either, I'll try posting your images in this message...
