Been dealing with an intermittent issue on a freshly overhauled FM2n of mine. It would sometimes work fine with the MD-12 I own, and sometimes would lock up as if the end of the roll had been reached. Wouldn't do that on the FM2n I just traded away. Turns out, it was the MD-12 itself, and not the body. Lubricant for the winding key had become dried out.

So, if anyone else experiences this issue, the fix is to have the drive lubed up.
