I have really appreciated all of you who have taken the time to respond to my original post, giving me advice on which camera, etc. And now that I have my first manual focus, my beloved mint F3HP, I want only moreso to continue to learn in this forum. After reading numerous posts and subjects, I decided it was time to make sure I knew what some of you were talking about, and to be able to discuss with you on some level of expertise, the equipment and issues in this forum. So, I went to the bookstore this weekend and purchased a book titled "The Nikon Compendium". What a great history and source of information this book provides. I spent the beeter part of the weekend reading it.
You all have addded to my joy of photography, given me a new interest in not just the Nikon name, but the tradition, history, and pride that goes with the deeper concept of belonging to the Nikon family. Thank you.
A few weeks back I treated myself to the book "Nikon, A celebration" by Brian Long (ISBN 1-86126-831-9) Am not in a position to make any comments about its accuracy, but I found it to be a nice read, packed with old NIkon Ad's & pictures of some very lovely equipment.
Nikon System Handbook by B. Moose Petersen. Fairly detailed book, has a history about bodies, lenses, and accessories, also provides some commentary about the various lenses and if they're worth buying in the author's mind.
Nikon Data by Comon/Evans - may be out of print - had some light information about various bodies and lenses, plus old ads.
The Complete Nikon System by Peter Braczko. I have this book. Trumps pretty much all the others, at least, on gear made before 2000. Hasn't been updated since then, unfortunately.

I can only second Bart's feelings. This is a special freewheeling group that gives are mod all he can handle. I am glad you enjoy our banter.
I to can say I have learned alot from everyone here. From the day my FM3a arrived the MF forum has been a rock for us MF film users. So I would like to thank all my fellow prongsters for keeping the faith. Kind regards Jim
Hello again all, LL...yes, I know about NAS and it has struck me hard! What an illness, I guess you just let it run its course...like Malaria and hope you survive the withdrawls from your bank account. In order to feed this beast I am even selling some of my digital stuff.
The other book titles are great and the NBAS, that's a good one. I am now devising a MF kit to take with me certain days.
The other day, my wife asked, "Why did we stop in and buy film?" I simply said, "So I can take photos of my favorite subject...you"
You guys are great and although I like my digital I really feel this forum adds to the essence of photography.
I beieve I will use my digital at first to take some readings and then compare to my F3 to see how close the metering is, using the same lens if possible on each camera.
Love this MF stuff....nothing like being born again.
