I will be attending a wedding quite soon, and instead of carring several prime lenses around, I was looking for advice on a good second hand AI or AIS zoom lens suitable for my FM3A. I am interested in good optical quality. All opinions will be gratefully received.

The 75-150mm f3.5 Series E is one of the sharpest zooms available. If that range suits you, it is a great buy at around $150 on eBay. The 35-75mm MF AIS is a bargain at around $90 on eBay. These lenses have moderate speed and zoom ranges, but they provide excellent optical quality at very reasonable cost.

If you want to take along only one lens, you´ll need a very versatile one. From covering dozens of weddings, I can say that you´d need a wide angle of about 28mm for group shots and action (dancing aso.) and you´ll also need a good focal length for portraits (usually from a little distance since you can´t relly sit on the groom´s lap to take that frame-filling shot of the bride ).
My usual setup consists of two bodies with a 28-70 and a 80-200 attached. For one camera, I´d look for a zoom covering 28-105 mm. I haven´t tried it, but you can read lots of good reviews of the 28-105 Nikkor here.
Just my two cents (since the advent of the Euro currency, we Europeans can use that idiom, too. Neat.)
