Hi everyone so glad i found this forum now that im the proud owner of a nikon d800, I have moved up from a d3100 and have been using DX lenses on my d800. I love photographing birds but probaly need an FX lens to go with the d800, I am using a sigma 150-500 at the moment... any recomendations ?
Welcome to Nikonians! Thanks for the intro. Congratulations on your new D800. I am sure you will be as happy with it as I am with mine. The Sigma 150-500mm is an FX lens. If you are looking for something faster, the Nikkor 500mm f/4G ED AF-S is razor sharp though it will set your wallet back about $8400.00 US. With that lens You will likely want to add a Gitzo 5 series and a Gimbal head as well (approx. $1700.00 US). Good Luck and Enjoy your Nikons!
Hi Dave, Welcome to Nikonians. Another option is Sigma's 500 f4.5 EX HSM this lens is also razor sharp a tad slower with no VR but only runs (I say only with a smile) $4999 and it is a tad lighter than the Nikkor.
From one new member to another, it has absolutely amazed me the response I have received to my introduction/question. Members are very willing to help. I'm looking forward to a long relationship with the Nikonian organization.
I have visited you beautiful country a couple of times and am very much looking forward to going back.
My Mom was born in Laurencekirk Kinkardinshire near Aberdeen, always been proud of my Scottish heritage.
We did the genealogy thing and toured Scotland in 2001 and met long lost relations. I bought a Nikon F60 Film SLR for the trip and was new to SLR photography. I was very pleased with the pictures we took, we have some 600 images from that trip, which was a lot of film to be developed after we got home. I plan on digitizing them someday.
I now have a D5100 and enjoy not paying for developing and film anymore.
