Is there a way in Capture NX2 to separate the drop down menus in the Edit List palette (Camera Settings, Quick Fix, etc.) from each other and put them side by side? I am getting a second monitor for the palettes and it would be nice if I could arrange them on that monitor with the drop down menus side by side so that I can keep them open all the time without having to do any scrolling.
I don't believe what you are asking for is possible. I do not think the different drop down sections in the Edit List window can be separated. As far as I know, the best you can do is to collapse the sections when you are not using them. For example, once you've finished with the Quick Fix section and have started to add edit steps in the Adjust section, you can collapse the Quick Fix section. Similarly, as you finish with an edit step in the Adjust section, collapse it.
I know that's not what you want, but it's the best suggestion I can think of.

The edit list can be placed on the second monitor, but it will still be a vertical list like Danny said. The list area will be a bit longer as you can use the full height of the screen. If you are using the browser on the second screen as well, it will have to be resized to make room for the edit list. If not, the edit list will cover part of the browser area. Then save it as a workspace.
Edited to add: I personally close a step when I am done and only leave open something I may want to work on later. This does not happen that often.

Karl, I don't think so at this time. I use a second monitor for the folder list, exif data and occasionally the edit list; I have not found a way to "break off" various edit sections like develop and quick fix and put them side by side. I asked Nikon about this about a year back via email. I got the digital equivalent of a horse-laugh for a reply. That would be a good thing to add to the wish list for NX3.
On my PC WIN XP dual monitor system, the main, calibrated picture screen is in the centre, my reference or tools monitor is just to the right. When NX2 is restored down, the right screen margin is easily stretched over to the right monitor providing a full screen comfortable, clean, picture editing environment.
This layout, with many applications, has served me well for many years.
Thank you all (Danny, Mark, Freewheeler, Wils) for your answers! I kind of suspected what you are telling me, but I hoped I was wrong and had missed how to undock the drop down menus. I will add this to the NX3 wish list.
