I have been using NX2 very happily saving a TIFF file 16bit in Nikon RGB space. It usually opens normally in CS4. Sometimes though it opens in Adobe Camera Raw (an unwanted result). Usually I open the file out of PhotoMechanic or from File Explorer in a Vista 64 bit O/S. Almpst always it opens in CS4 as desired, but occassionally not even though other TIFF files open correctly from both apps respectively ... very frustrating trying to get the NX2 edits in to CS4 to complete the pp (ACR ver 5.6 or 5.5 rendering/edits are not wanted).
Thanks for the suggested work around which has two TIFF opening possibilities, one for ACR and the other without ACR.
Hopefully someone has insight in to the underlying problem of ACR grabbing TIFF files rather than allowing them to open in a normal PS window. Also now ACR is also grabbing JPG files automatically!
Note that File Handling Preferences in CS4 are unchecked for Preferring ACR for supported files, thus it should not be grabbing either of the TIFF or JPG files. Neverthless the problem appears with both newest ACR 5.6 and the rolled back ACR 5.5 version of Camera Raw. Jim
KeithR, thanks for the suggestion. I actually changed that setting earlier today in experimentation and it does then allow expected opening of JPEG and Tiff files when set to disreguard. And if you wanted to actually have ACR open the file, simply use the Control key and open with.
Nevertheless, that isn't what caused the sudden change since "Open xxx With Settings" preferrence setting has been the same for well over two + years since CS3 was installed let alone since almost 1 1/2 years of CS4. I have checked that preference setting on a comupter that I haven't used for well over a year.
Puzzling, but thanks to both you responders with suggestions to get out of this bind. I am continuing to investigate but at least have a method to work.
