You are right, I should have listed those changes as "what works best for me". We all have different needs and do not use our cameras the same. Even if daunting at times, it is great that Nikon's have so many setting variables.
I actually do use 39pt matrix metering a lot. However my shutter speed only goes down when on a TriPod, even for hikes and portraits.
I also shoot HD 1080P 30fps Video in the Manual Mode with AF-S, normal (area) f-stop 5.6 with a 28-300 lens (I seldom use the 28-70 except on the darkest days), speed 60s and ISO 3200 for inside our Church.
