We should start a different thread, but the problem is similar. I shoot ballet performances in dark theaters and think the 70-200 would be the minimum for such work unless you are very close where a 24-70 would be suitable. Opening a prime wide will run into shallow DOF on the D600 unless that is what you want. I found the D7000 to be well suited to the public performances because of its very quiet shutter in the Q mode. That was the only way I was able to get a letter to allow shooting in the theater. But I did sneak my D800 in and used my suit coat as a muffler. Image wise it was better, lower noise but still louder.
There is not enough information to give specific advice. What shooting distance, what light level does it meter at, how shallow of DOF can you tolerate given the number of dancers and depth between them?
