I would only consider FX if I entended to upgrade to suitable lenses so this could be an expensive shift. What about improving your shooting position so there is more collected light? Can you work your way up to the front. Volunteer to be the "official photographer" for the productions or beg the director.
If you really must shoot from a distance, a D7000 would be a more cost effective move and invest in a 70-200, used or even a 3rd party version. Another option is to rent faster lenses for the night of the performance.
If you decide to move to FX, the lenses to reach will be more than you assume, it suddenly becomes pretty expensive. A 300 2.8 or 400 2.8 is a big expense if you really have to shoot from the back. A 70-200 with TC will not be too much faster or have that much IQ advantage over your current lens. A relatively cheap 85 1.8($450) from the wings or front would give great results with your current camera, and result in sharper, brighter images than shooting from the back with long telephotos that cost her first semester's college tuition.
This is a case where being creative in thinking is more important than money and new gear.
