It just means that the exposure compensation you dialed in resets to 0 EV. The meter itself doesn't reset.

So, if you dialed in -2EV exposure compensation, you would see the -2EV in the viewfinder. Don't touch anything for a few seconds and wait for the camera/meter to go into standby. If you wake it up again by touching the shutter, you will find the exposure compensation is back to 0 EV.
