Here is another picture I took a few minutes ago of my daughter with my new D600 and AF-S Nikkor 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G VR lens.
Handheld with VR at 85mm, 1/60 sec at f/8, SD Picture Control, sRGB, fill flash from pop-up speedlight, ISO 100, camera-created JPEG.
This lens is exceptionally sharp, even wide open, although I did see some corner softness! Starting around f/5.6 the whole frame is acceptably sharp and by f/8 this lens is very sharp edge to edge and quite capable of commercial work. The bokeh is not as smooth as a prime or the Nikkor 24-70, of course. However, I quite like the size, and it will be on this D600 most of the time. It is 1/3 the cost of the 24-70 and has excellent VR.
Here is a sample of shot of my son, Ethan, at 85mm and wide-open aperture (85mm, f/4.5, 1/60 sec, fill flash, SD picture control, sRGB):
Overall, the camera and lens performs exceptionally well! What do you think?
