Hi Matt,

I went through the same puzzling situation with my
D800E that shares a similar layout to the D600.

I think Brian has the right explanation:
"… inadvertently pressing the Multi-Selector control“

My younger son and I are left eye shooters as my older
one is a right eye. I discovered that we were not the only
ones to experience this effect as that it is very frequently
observable by left eye shooters in the beginning.

This is a "getting used to" issue. You will be better off if this
is your only camera. But we are working with other cameras
with other layout so it will less easy for us.

Are you a left eye shooter?

Have a good time!
