To the first part of the question:
After the firmware update, my D600 is running C 1.01 / L 1.006.


To the second part:
The Mac should see the card in the card reader and recognize it as an external drive. (It doesn't recognize the card reader without a card plugged in.)

It's possible that you're using a card too big for the card reader to handle, e.g. an SDHC card in an older card reader that only works with SD cards. If you have a 4 MB or 8 MB card, it might work.

Does your Mac have a card slot? If so, use it instead of the card reader.

Otherwise, you may need to update the card reader.
