I find that if I just let matrix metering do the exposure, LR4.4 pretty much gives me the scene just as I saw it, no matter what the general lighting is. Occasionally, under a high contrast scene I underexpose 1.0 to 1.7 stops and the wide DR of the camera handles the scene - trick is, using the superior RAW converter of Lightroom to reduce highlights, recover shadows and balance exposure.
