Because of the quick help of fellow Nikonians, I learned how to identify the total number of shutter actuations on the camera with a Mac computer. I also was affirmed in my trust of a reputable dealer: Adorama in this case.
To find the number of shutter actuations for the Nikon D600, and perhaps that of any other camera that produces EXIF data as well,
1. Open a JPEG image in Preview (Mac users know what this is) 2. Select Tools/Show Inspector in the Menu Bar 3. Select the info tab (i), then choose "Nikon" on the submenu bar 4. The number of shutter actuations will be shown.
Again, many thanks. I hope the shutter actuations info is helpful. And hopefully, this camera has a high enough serial number to dodge the dust/oil issue.
