Brian, appreciate your extensive reply

I do intend to sometimes use both bodies at the same time
Landscape I’d probably use the 11-16 on one body, and 70-200 on the other
If I had one body in FX (probably with the 70-200) the gap will be narrower
I was considering purchasing a 1.7 teleconverter which would extent it to 340, when needed
And I was considering keeping both bodies and controls similar, hence considering D600 and D7100

And while I do not do any paid or committed photography where the shots must be there, I find a lot of my travelling now has shooting pics in mind. So if I ended up with a problem body for whatever reason, that would annoy me
But I understand your thinking, for me a back up is not critical
The photography bug came about with my work, trouble shooting for the carpet industry
A big issue I constantly come across is bad pics of problems, often with phone cameras
It’s been my goal to ‘show’ the other person(s) exactly what the problem is with a very clear and telling pic
I feel I’m getting there, but it’s meant I’ve had to get involved with the mechanics and emotions of taking photos
So, whatever new body I get, it will be paid for by the business, which makes it easier
And the D7000 will still be used for taking shots of carpet, with the 18-55 kit lens, which I found to be my fav for indoor carpet shots
The next body I would use as my primary shooting body out in the ‘field’
So both would continue to be used, I believe
And as for what would this upgrade do to my photographic results, that’s something I’m going to find out
I don’t believe I’ve found my niche yet, away from the requirement at work
Which is why I mentioned wanting versatility, something different, that being FX, perhaps

I understand with either upgrade my technique will need to improve
I think that really is never ending though

Upgrading the wide angle is something that has played on my mind, hence the procrastination
I’ve enjoyed using the Tokina 11-16 and am quite happy to continue using it on a DX

I haven’t found the need for a longer lens, yet
Animals haven’t really caught my attention, and I tend to use my feet where I can

I don’t mind spending money on good gear that I get good usage out of (told you I’m a gadget guy!) but I hate wasting money on things that I get and find almost straight away it doesn’t fit my needs/wants

I have considered a D800e, but the file sizes turned me off. I’ve had to buy a dedicated laptop as it is just for the ‘recreational’ pics, cos between them and work pics things quickly got squeezed on other pc's

And courses I shy away from, mainly cos memory was never one of my strong points, unless I do it with my hands, or solve a problem, then it tends to stick forever
So I read from your reply I’d be better off with the D800e, which I must admit I’ve already considered and turned off

But I'm here to listen to all ideas because I'm sure many of you have been where I am
