A camera's ISO range isn't an absolute guide to image quality.

Things have moved on quite a bit since the D700 - the D600's sensor is several years and two generations later in design, and the image processing engine will have seen further development as well.

To counter that (possibly...), the D600 has significantly smaller photosites compared with the D700.

All we can really suggest is to wait for some formal comparative tests and measurements.
