What modes of are you using when it misses on the D7000 using flash. Most of my shots are with flash, even outdoors in daylight and do not remember it being a problem. If using Auto ISO, unpredictable exposure results at times.
The D4/D800 91,000pixel metering sensor improves a lot of different subsystems which use input from the metering sensor. It works really really well and contributes to the excellent tracking in AF that seems to hold onto a moving subject much better than any prior model.
The D600 will not be expected to track as well or be as consistently good in metering but not be a weak point either. It is just that the D4/800 is just so good.
The Expeed III processor is obviously doing more magic and faster doing it so it is not going to be deficient for any but the most extreme shooting conditions.
