I know workflow changes can be annoying - but I have begun experimenting with RAW converters outside of ACR and it is showing me what a difference your RAW converter can make.
One I can high recommend is Picture Code's Photo Ninja. It is a free trial, just over $100 to buy, and renders some of the best RAW image files I have seen in my workflow. You also get Noise Ninja integrated for free.
Another that is getting a lot of camera nerd buzz is RAW Photo Converter. I have not used it enough to give an opinion - the interface is not super intuitive but fast once you get used to it. It seems to render a lot of detail that ACR does not.
