The D7000 RAW file is about 19MB. The D600 DX mode has about 13MB. That's less than 70% of the D7000. If I do the math correctly, D600 FX RAW file is 29MB. 1.5X crop should give you 19MB in DX mode not 13MB. When I look at the pixel count of the D600 in DX mode, it is less than half of the FX. The D7000 has the proper pixel count, which makes me believe that the D600 is "cropping" more and giving us a smaller image than the D7000 (or other models using the DX crop sensor). Should I forget about using the auto DX and just crop the image post-processing when I use my DX lenses.
