Actually, I set my auto WB that way shortly after buying my D600 and now in LR4.3, it comes much closer to matching the presets for RAW files. The standard WB in auto was much cooler looking and I had to always set it.
Now, from what HBB has said, LR does not always read Nikon WB correctly, but with this setting, it seems to keep my WB tweaking to a minimum.
An example below where one is JPEG with no tweaks and the other is the "As Shot" setting for the RAW file in LR 4.3 after import.
