I hope you are enjoying your recently purchased D600. With regard to the over exposure of the woman's face, might I suggest you use a narrower method of metering. The Matrix metering will evaluate the overall scene, where using spot metering or center weighted metering may provide you better results along with a meter and recompose method. I also use the AE/Af button as back button focusing, but perhaps you could experiment with using it to lock exposure. The D600 also gives you the option of fine tuning the meter's exposure, but I'm afraid that it will give you mixed results as you are getting now. I think learning to judge the scene and either compensating exposure or metering from a different portion of the scene will give you better results. Either way, with time and practice, it will become second nature and your speed to get the image will increase. Good luck and I hope you are happy with your purchase.
