Hello Phillip,
Just some feedback on your advice. Correct on all counts.

I ended up shooting at 6400 with very nice results. Amazing camera.

I did not take the 70-200 as you suggested as I did not want the weight, nor did I want to stand out with all the other parents using Iphones. I wish I had!! Most of my shots with the 24-85 ended up at 85. With such a small venue, there are a lot of visual distractions and isolation is key. The big glass would certainly have been useful. Lessons learned.

Will try to post sample shots.

Pre-focusing also worked nicely.
