Thanks for articulating my own feelings on this subject. Since I already have a D3s and a D700 and a D300 I would never have any use for a feature stripped camera. Af-On is an essential button. I don't think I need a 'scene dial' (is that what I saw on the picture of a D600?). 8fps is a minimum for me, knocking the D800 and D600 out of the picture. The D600 sounds more like it should have been called a D6000.
Where's the D400 with better high ISO capability and I don't care how many megapixels and a full set of buttons?
I admit I would very much like to have f/8 focussing for my 600 f/4 and tc-20eIII.
