For your specific need (bird photography), I concede you may be right. I have never shot birds in flight, so I have no frame of reference there. That said, for my specific need, low light action photography, the D7000 is a better camera. Between the better high ISO performance, and the increased resolution for cropping, it's a no brainer.
And, the AF on the D7000 is good enough for fast action sports, and indoor basketball in low light at ISO 3200 and above (at least with fast lenses),...so that's pretty darn good.
That said, I can't wait to see reviews of the "new" 39 point AF system, to see how it compares to the older 51 point system.
