Yes, the 500 is 8.5 lbs as opposed to 3.2 for the 70-200, but it is a true tele (750mm DX), imho. It is the weight for a good tele. However, it might as well be $50,000, because it won’t happen. My 28-300 (1.8 lbs and 450mm DX) with all its shortcomings, will do splendidly, instead.
Regarding the D600 – I have to sell the D700 for ~ $1,500 – give or take $200. It might not happen. Oh well, I cannot have everything . Since it will be my last upgrade, I do not care if I get it next week, in six months, or a year from now. The only problem is that the D700 depreciates further with time – “c’est la vie.”
