I have decided to get D600, but I have to sell the D700 at a reasonable price. I’m not in a hurry so I can wait. I just sent the D700 to have the sensor cleaned, just in case I sell it. If I do not sell it, won’t lose any sleep over it.
I strongly believe that the D600 will be my last upgrade. I would have the D600 (or D700,) D7000, X1, and all the lenses I will ever need. The 70-200 VRII is very tempting but too heavy for a 200mm lens. It was the main reason I sold the 70-200 version one, in the first place. The lens that I identified that I need is the AF-S 500mm f/4. There is no way that I will shell out $8,300 for a sometime used lens – It won’t happen.
