It reminds me of what my father said about stereos. Why spend a lot of money on a system the plays beautiful inaudible 20kHz tones? Of course, it is to produce a perfectly flat response curve in the audible range.
If the transition from pure black to pure white is 10 stops, what does 11 stops get you? I can see better contrast ratios as a result of greater bit depth and a resulting increase in tonalities within the visible spectrum.
