Thanks for all the replies.
I was thinking, say one mounts a Nikon 28-300 mm FX lens on the D600. If one now finds oneself in a position where more reach is needed, put the camera in DX mode. This provides equivalent reach of +- 450 mm. Would this be a better option than shooting in FX mode at 300 mm and cropping on the computer later?
