I just started playing with this.

So far have found the AF-On more convenient than the AE-L/AF-L button.

The timing between pushing the shutter button down and then pushing the AE-/AF-L takes some practice for me. The button is located fine but just the timing.

I would prefer to push the button then once you push the shutter then it locks. With the AF-ON you just need to remember to push prior to pressing the shutter.
