I'm a D300s owner, and when I looked at a D600 at Best Buy it seemed very solid to me, even compared to my D300s. I would have a hard time choosing between it and the D800 if deciding between the two (which is good, because it's saving me money now). Both seem very nice and one couldn't go wrong with either. Certainly, the D800 is step up build & feature-wise, but then camera bodies, especially digital cameras, are quickly superseded by cameras that have better IQ for the same or less money - it makes me wonder how smart it is to buy a camera built to last 20 years, when the sensor is outdated in five. Also, the 16-85VR is a DX format lens.
