I don't need to change ISO very frequently so the button location is no big deal for me.

You can assign ISO sensitivity to the sub command dial in modes P and S or main command dial in mode A from d3 in your custom settings menu. (page 229 in the Manual)

If I'm in a situation that needs frequent ISO changes, I use the Auto ISO feature (page 107 in the Manual) I have Auto ISO set up for my U1 group of settings so it's easy to shift to that mode when necessary.
