I found a Web site, Cleaning Digital Cameras, that deals with sensor cleaning in great detail. It is quite good.
From the site's introduction:
"We have put this site together to help educate the consumer on how to clean the CCD/CMOS sensor in their Digital SLR Cameras. With so much disinformation out there along with some trying to scare you into buying their supplies, we are here to clear the smoke and demystify the subject."
The link "Inspecting for Dust" describes a great way to take a dust-test image. This involves creating a Photoshop document on your computer's monitor, using a light colored background, and photographing the screen.
NOTE: In addition to outlining the professional tools available, the site describes making some do-it-yourself tools. One should be very confident in his or her abilities before using DIY tools. I'm sticking to the professional tools.
Do the research. Use due diligence when choosing digital cleaning methods and tools.
