Considering that I use single point focus nearly all the time it does not matter much to me how many focus points there are.
What maters to me is that the center 5 points are cross type, the AF is fast and accurate.
I liked the 39 point AF on my D7000 better than the 51 point D300, but the 51 point D800 is better yet.
I expect the Expeed 3 processor and newer technology to work just fine on the D600
