I don't think the replies on this forum regarding dust and serial numbers are anywhere near a sufficient quantity to come to a conclusion. I have not seen a statement that Nikon has fixed the problem in production, so I don't think we can assume that any serial number is immune.

According to LensRentals.com, the problem diminishes over time, so if you are willing to deal with a bit of dust then there is no reason to hesitate in buying a D600. Mike Hagen reported that, while his D600 has dust, it is no worse than his other Nikon cameras.
