I have read the thread carefully as I am in a similar crossroad. I like Capture and View NX. Speially after what I learnt fro Jason Odell's book. But when I tried to upgrade from CNX1 it was impossibke to download a license from Nikon's website. Foreign websites ( UK, US, Netherland...) are not allowed to sell to Spain. Spanish website simply does not carry the upgrade. I complained via mail to both EU site ( same as UK) and Spain's site, with negative response. Later I found an internet shop (I believe it is run by Spain's Nikon importer) where they charge me 120 Euro for the upgrade. At Nikon US store is quoted at 110 USD (aprox 80 EUR).
It is not that I'll be any richer saving these 40 EUR but I wonder why I have to pay 50% more for a code key I could download anywhere in the world. I'm fed up with this and that's why I'm looking seriously for alternatives.
Looking for lightroom 4, I believe that current raw converter is really much better than previous versions, and even comparable to CNX2. And certainly it adds a bunch of nice features for cataloguing, edition and publishing. I don't like dealing with sidecar files or storing the edition steps in a separate catalog file, but I huess I can leave with this.
It is sad that Adobe has a similar price policy in our market, but as I qualify fkr educational price I can get it for around 80 EUR, therefore, as soon as I finalise refurbishing our hime network, I almost sure take the plunge and move defiitely to LR4.
In the meantime, I found a couple of nice eBooks (which are really sold in USD through the web), you can find them here and here.
