Will

I have toyed with Lightroom but do not have it in my workflow today. I did not like the impact on workflow and have other tools that work better for me.

Within the past 18 months I moved to Photo Mechanic for ingest, captions, and keywords. I use View NX2 for reviewing, rating, and minor edits. I use View for events and other high volume work (minor adjustment for exposure, brightness, contrast, saturation, shadow recovery) where I don't need an advanced edit and convert to small JPEG (optionally with a watermark) in Photo Mechanic.

For advanced editing of individual images, I use Capture NX2 for 98% of my edits.

Photo Mechanic has the advantage that it handles conversion of NEF files regardless of file type or what product I have used for edits.

PM and View are VERY fast at turning NEFs into JPEGs sized as needed. For me, this is better than shooting RAW+JPEG in most situations.

It seems that whatever program and workflow you choose, there are always exceptions or minor issues that create challenges. I have CS6 for those rare situations where I need something beyond Nikon Capture NX2.
