I would agree if it was true but of course it is not.
Here are the restrictions: "During this period if this product is found to be defective in material or workmanship, Nikon Inc, or one its authorized service facilities will at its option, either repair or replace this Product without charge, subject to the following conditions, limitations and exclusions:
This warranty extends to the original consumer purchaser only and is not assignable or transferable. This warranty shall not apply to any Product which has been subjected to misuse, abuse, abnormal use, negligence, alteration or accident, or has had its serial number altered or removed. This warranty does not apply to any defects or damage directly or indirectly caused by or resulting from the use unauthorized replacement parts and/or service performed by unauthorized personnel. This warranty does not apply to the batteries and software driver that accompanies this product."
That is a pretty standard set of conditions, limitations and exclusions, and does not preclude a user from cleaning their unit. What is all the firm resistance to cleaning ones own camera....did I miss something? Why is this a big deal, maybe someone can explain it to me because I can't figure it out. Just clean it and go out and take photos.
