B&H has Pre order price of $2099 for body only and $2699 for kit with 24-85VR lens. I have no use for that lens but the price for body only is decent for what you are getting. 5.5 frames per second at full resolution. I think with the 1080p video and low noise ISO it's a real winner for the entry level FF crowd. 24.3 mp is Easily adequate for nearly anything you are going to print.
I look forward to the reviews. Still not quite fast enough of a frame rate to replace the D300/D300s. If it ends up taking a Grip that increases frame rates to 7-9 frames a second it could be a replacement for my crowd. I still need the reach for motorsports that my D300 affords me with the Crop factor. My 300mm f4 AF-S is 450mm Effective. To move up to a 400 f2.8, 500mm f4 is steep to make up for the disparity in focal length!
If this is a move from the D300/D300s then nikon needs to market a 400mm F4 AF-S lens that is much more affordable for the mid level price point crowd. It's just too steep of a jump from 300mm to 400mm primes right now.
