Santa is coming. The Nikkor 16-35mm f/4 is probably off the agenda but the smaller and lighter (both on neck and wallet) Tokina 17-35mm f/4 is a possibility, moreover there is a nice Nikkor 20-35mm f/2.8 for sale here for about $700.
Or do I go for spped - the Nikkor 28mm f/1.8 or the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 look very tempting. I do have primes at both lengths (not to mention a Fuji X100) but the 35mm maybe makes more sense as the speed and boke might add something special.
To be honest I think the Tokina may make the most sense as it covers so much ground, including those extra 3mmm, though I'd wager that the new Sigma 35mm will be an exceptional lens.
It's a moot point whether anything is required at all. I'm quite enjoying being forced to manual focus at 20mm and 28mm, and both the older lenses, having come out of retirement, are performing superbly. The focussing rings are so well made, and the colour coded DOF information on the focus ring is just tremendous.
