I'm patiently waiting for my D600 to arrive, ordered but no ETA as yet.
In the meantime I'm thinking through how the addition (or return!) to FX will impact my lens lineup and any potential additions, along with weighing up selling my D300s.
Luckily I feel I have been setting myself up for FX for a while and always favoured adding FX lenses and have ended up with a few gems (85 f1.4G, 135 f2 DC) and a couple of solid performers (24-120 f4, 50 f1.8G) and an assortment of primes and VR telephoto zooms etc... I didn't ever put a lot of $ into DX lenses with the one exception being the 12-24mm f4 (which I actually picked up used anyway).
I did post my D300s for sale but not so much as a nibble. I may have to drop my asking price. But I'm not surprised. Selling used cameras is like selling used computers, ultimately they are worth more keeping them and putting them to even occasional use then selling for peanuts. Maybe my daughter will end up with a better camera than she dreamed of?
So anyway it's the wide end that I know I'm going to be jonesing for when the D600 finally arrives. I have several FX lenses that go as far as 24mm including a 24mm f2.8D, but no quality Nikkor beyond that. But to tie me over (between saving & purchases) I do have an old, cheap Soligor 19-35mm f3.5-4.5. It's built like a disposable kids toy but hey, it will mount on a Nikon and although it's been years since I snapped a frame with it, I recall it wasn't too shabby, a glass half full look at the build, it's light! - and bottomline it's FX so for now it'll have to do.
I've been looking at the 20mm primes both AF and MF, there's a couple of good choices there. Ultimately I see a 16-35mm VR in my future.
Can't wait for FX - I remember well purchasing my D300s and looking longingly at the D700 in the display case next to it. I just knew it was too large and heavy for my needs but now... I don't care, the wait has been long enough, my 135mm f2DC needs an FX body!!!
Fun chatting with others in such diverse parts of the world!!!
