If your primary need is reach, you are not gaining much, except a bit better AF version of the same base system; Multicam4800.
Might this purchase driven more by NAS than as a solution to a stated problem? If you were most interested in landscape or portraiture, wedding, studio shooting I would be encouraging you to consider the D600, if the D800 is out of your price range. But for birding, you have a good kit now. BIF will be helped with higher performance AF, is that enough of an upgrade?
